Welcome, Introductions & Institute Overview

Overview:
Teachers will gain the knowledge and ability to use and create digital media within their content areas to enhance student learning and engagement. Educators can use digital media in many ways, from introducing new material to helping students learn to conduct research, synthesize large amounts of content and gain expertise in the use of digital communication and authoring tools. This workshop is designed to help educators enhance student literacy by focusing digital reading, writing, speaking and listening resources.

Objectives:
Participants will learn about the global power of blogging as a digital medium for communication Participants will create a blog to host future digital content Participants will establish criteria for effective blogs & identify models of best blogging practices Participants will post on the blog a content based assignment for their student

What is Digital Media?

What are the various types of digital media? How does it fit into the instructional arena?

Digital Media and Learning examines the effect of digital media tools on how people learn, network, communicate, and play, and how growing up with these tools may affect a person's sense of self, how they express themselves, and their ability to learn, exercise judgment, and think systematically with an arsenal of resources enabling them to create their own digital stories.
